Location: Bush/Larkin (NW corner).
The Lurline Baths were built in 1894 by the Olympic Saltwater Co. and closed in 1936. An Ocean Beach pumphouse (color photo below) pushed Pacific Ocean saltwater from an offshore intake pipe 4 miles down Geary Boulevard to a Laurel Heights reservoir en route to the baths. The intake pipe ran on Lurline Pier (also called Olympic Pier) just south of the Cliff House before coming ashore and going underground at Ocean Beach, roughly at Balboa. Lurline Pier was removed ca. 1966.
An 1897 Edison short film (ca. 20") shows bathers on a Lurline Baths slide.
